Best Practices for Technology Change
Determine Where You Are vs Where You Want to Be
You may have a problem if you’re constantly struggling to meet
objectives. The requirement for timely delivery of technical information
of more complex products will likely grow.
Take Measurement of Your Situation
Understand your situation relative to industry norms for cost and
performance. You need accurate data not only to understand what the
problem is, but why it’s a problem in the first place.
Create a Plan Based on Your Business Needs
Define and implement a plan that addresses the gaps. Gaps are typically
in technology, processes and skills. Tools (technology) are shiny and
new but the processes and skills must be aligned.
Validate Your Successes and Shortfalls
Verify that the results achieved are the results expected – all in terms
of business needs. If not, develop a plan to (re)address the gaps. If
so, let management know you nailed it.
